Richard and Judy’s roving reporter, Mike McClean visits Warrington business. Sharples Group, based on Woolston Grange feature on Richard and Judy’s weekly feature ‘The Apprentice’.
Mike spent three days at the copying, printing and document management company, where the company taught him the trade.
Mark Brocklehurst, Managing Director at Sharples, said; “This was a massive challenge and it would take at least twelve months to train someone to undertake any client work and then only under the watchful eye of a trained engineer. We taught our apprentice all the tricks of the document management trade and we didn’t hold back in challenging him to test his skills when we decided to fire him.”
At the start of the week, ‘The Apprentice’, Mike McClean, arrived at the office equipment supplier based on The Grange in Woolston to start his new job, on the way he watched a recorded message from Richard and Judy, telling him that he would be learning the trade of a photocopying engineer.
On arrival Mike learnt the theory of reprographics and then with screwdriver in hand experienced some hands-on fixing. Overnight Sharples arranged for a photocopier to be sent to his hotel to give him chance to do some swotting-up before spending the day shadowing an engineer on visits to clients in South Manchester.
On his final day he was set a practical test on site at a local accountants, Booth Ainsworth in Stockport, followed in the afternoon with a theory text and the final test when he appeared in front of the panel to decide whether he was hired or fired.
