21 Mar Sharples Group Teams Up With Active Cheshire
Sharples Group has teamed up with Active Cheshire, pledging to bring more physical activity into the workplace.
The physical and mental wellbeing of the team at Sharples Group is a company priority. Our team is our strength; we are proud that our people have a wealth of knowledge and experience, a great team spirit and that our staff turnover rate is incredibly low.
As a company, we have a history of taking part in active challenges to support local community initiatives. Some team members cycle and run together in their own time. We have a small gym and shower facilities on site, for those who want to exercise during lunch breaks.
We also understand the positive impact physical activity can have on achieving business objectives: productivity, fulfilment, satisfaction.
But the workplace reality is that many of us now spend a large proportion of our day at desks working on computers. As an employer, yes, we want our team to focus on doing their jobs well. But we also feel a responsibility to counter the effect of the sedentary lifestyle and incorporate opportunities to be more physically active during the working day.

So we have engaged the services of Active Cheshire, an organisation working to a Blueprint designed to raise activity levels across the whole of Cheshire. With their guidance we have formulated an action plan aimed at achieving buy-in from our whole team to bring more activity into our workplace.
Implementing the Active Cheshire motto ‘small steps, big impact’ we have pledged to introduce motivational tools within the workplace to ensure our team get away from their desks on a regular basis. For example, we will hold standing or walking meetings. Well-being discussions will be introduced at our performance reviews and in staff satisfaction surveys.
Why introduce an Action Plan? For us, the formal action plan is the ideal way to bring accountability to the initiative. Progress will be reviewed at the regular Sharples Group Management Team Meetings and the management team is jointly responsible for completing the actions, reporting back and helping us to fulfil our pledge.
As fully-fledged members of the Active Cheshire initiative we have received our certificate and display materials that we have placed in our reception area to remind each and every one of us that we’re in!
