Climate change is a global problem which we must all take responsibility for. We are all part of the problem and also part of the solution but we must act now. By using Epson Heat-Free Technology we immediately reduce our own carbon footprint without compromising our business commitments. We can now demonstrate to our customers that using an Epson printer will significantly reduce their own carbon footprint and make immediate and tangible gains for their own business and the environment.

The earth is facing numerous environmental challenges. The answer to these challenges lies in every person and every company thinking about changing behaviour. And we can all play our part.
Epson is focusing on changing the way we consume energy. Switching to Heat-Free Printing Technology, which uses no heat in the ink ejection process, delivers lower power consumption. Starting one page at a time, every time we all print, we can change the story together.
So when you’re making your next printing choice, think about switching to Heat-Free Printing Technology.
Turn technology to your advantage.
Epson and National Geographic have come together to raise awareness of how conserving heat is a great way to minimise our impact on the environment.
In this short video, National Geographic Explorer Katey Walter Anthony explains how “heat destroys permafrost. Conserving heat is one of the best ways to minimise our impact on the environment. Choosing Heat-Free Technology to lower energy consumption, will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help us slow permafrost thaw in the arctic.”

Epson has joined forces with experts at the University of Cambridge in a piece of research to better understand how printing can play its part in reducing the impact of global warming.
The research identified that to keep the world on track to achieve a net zero carbon future, the energy consumed globally by all appliances must fall on average by approximately 25% from 2020 levels by 2030, and 40% by 2050.
It also revealed that a worldwide switch across all laser and inkjet models would cut energy emissions by 52.6% and that inkjet technology can be up to 90% more energy efficient than laser technology depending on the type of printer.
Laser and inkjet printers may look the same on the outside. But it’s what’s on the inside that counts. Epson’s Heat-Free Technology does not require heat in the ink ejection process. Instead, pressure is applied to the Piezo element, which flexes backwards and forwards firing the ink from the printhead.
This video explains more.
Less power consumption saves energy and money
Epson’s Heat-Free Printing Technology uses up to 83% less energy1 because it does not use heat to warm up. As inkjets have no fuse unit to heat, this results in significantly less power consumption.
Fewer replacement parts, lower environmental impact
Laser printers typically have more consumables and require periodic replacement of the drum, transfer belt and fuse in many cases. Thanks to Heat-Free Printing Technology, Epson’s inkjet printers produce fewer used consumables than laser printers.
Less intervention increases productivity
The Heat-Free structure of Epson inkjet printers means that there are fewer parts that can fail, which reduces the amount of intervention required.
Save time with consistent high-speed printing
Heat-Free Printing Technology requires no heat to warm up when it is switched on or awoken from sleep. This means you can start printing immediately, making it faster from ready compared to laser printers.
In independent tests, Epson’s WorkForce Pro models used up to 83% less energy than lasers and laser copiers1. See how much electricity and CO₂ you can save by using our calculator.
