My name is James, I am 17 years old and I go to Birchwood College.
I was lucky enough to be offered a week’s work experience placement at Sharples Group.
Opportunity to experience a wide variety of tasks
On my work experience I have been introduced to all departments that make up Sharples Group such as IT, finance, sales, operation, engineers and administration.
I have been given the opportunity to experience a wide variety of tasks which have included paying customer cheques off on Sage, reconciling petty cash, processing supplier invoices on Sage, sales visit, engineer visit, processing invoices, and internal and external toner deliveries processes, calculating drivers’ mileages and many other tasks.
Prepare for future working life
The tasks have given me new skills and helped me prepare for future working life. These tasks have allowed me to meet the people in each department of the business and see how each department differs. The people everywhere I have gone have been helpful and very welcoming in whatever department I have worked in throughout the week.
I have enjoyed the tasks I have been set as they have always changed so that I didn’t get bored doing the same tasks and so I can learn new skills. Also the tasks have been exciting and interesting mainly learning about the way that the business is ran.
The people at Sharples Group have been nothing short than the best and have provided me with a variety of tasks. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to do my work experience than Sharples Group who have allowed me in with full access to their business. I was even allowed to shadow the Financial Director for the week.
