Our commitment to the environment
Some of the facts and figures around the consumables businesses now use are startling and in order to fulfil our commitment to handling waste as responsibly as possible, Sharples made the business decision to partner The Greener Side.
The Greener Side provide a fully accredited recycling solution to the fastest growing waste stream – Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, or WEEE.
Around 1 million tonnes of WEEE is thrown away in the UK every year and by recycling 3,000 of electrical waste it is estimated that 26,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions are offset.
This means good news for the environment.
Under the Environmental Protection Act 2006 3289 WEEE regulations, the Government has set targets for producers to ensure that waste is disposed of properly. That means businesses have a duty of care to consign their waste to licensed facilities. Non-compliance can mean tough penalties, up to and including imprisonment.
As companies become more aware and want to actively contribute to the improvement of disposal methods, the motivation to embrace greener technologies has never been higher.
Fully committed to the ‘circular’ economy, The Greener Side has a zero landfill policy to which it strictly adheres. As an environmentally aware company, Sharples takes its responsibilities seriously and we can now pass the benefits of this partnership on to our clients, making sure your consumables are also dealt with correctly.
With fully licensed Waste Management Centres, The Greener Side recovers, treats and recycles inkjet, toner cartridges and mobile phones – meaning they won’t get sent to landfill. And that in turn a significantly reduces environmental impact.
Photocopiers, printers, scanners and computers are also recycled, with sensitive data being permanently wiped using the latest technology. A Certificate of Erasure is issued once this process is complete.
To add to their credentials, The Greener Side is part of the Microsoft Registered Refurbisher Scheme and members of the chartered Institution of Wastes management.
